Messaging & Activities
The Messaging & Activities system brings together two traditionally separate tools:
- Audit & Activity Logs – capturing the full history of changes and actions across the platform.
- Messaging – enabling teams to communicate directly in context with the work they’re doing.
By merging these into one system, NewsTeam ensures that every action, decision, and conversation is connected in a single, transparent record.
Planned Capabilities (v1)
Section titled “Planned Capabilities (v1)”The first complete release of Messaging & Activities is planned to include:
-
Audit Trail Every action in NewsTeam — from editing an article to publishing on a site — should be captured in a transparent audit history. The goal is a clear record of who did what, when, and where.
-
Activity Streams Activity should be browsable at the level you need:
-
Search & Filter The system is being shaped to answer questions like:
- “Who updated this headline?”
- “When was this video uploaded?”
- “Which user published this article to the homepage?”
With filtering by user, content type, site, or time range.
Beyond v1
Section titled “Beyond v1”-
Contextual Messaging Built on top of the audit layer, messaging will allow users to add comments, ask questions, and tag colleagues directly inside activity threads.
-
Entity Tagging Mention not only teammates but also content entities — articles, images, videos, workflows, sponsors, and more — linking conversations directly to the work.
-
Threaded Discussions Conversations around activities will remain tied to the audit record, ensuring the full context is preserved for the future.
-
Collaboration Hub Over time, Messaging & Activities can evolve into a newsroom-first alternative to Slack, where discussions, decisions, and activity history live together in one system.
Why It Matters
Section titled “Why It Matters”Newsrooms often struggle with fragmented communication and scattered audit trails. NewsTeam unifies both:
- Compliance & Transparency: Always know what happened and who was responsible.
- Collaboration & Context: See why things happened, with the conversation attached to the record.
This means the newsroom should not just get a log of events, but the story behind the work as well.
